The Project Management Professional (PMP) certification from PMI validates advanced project leadership across predictive, agile, and hybrid ways of working. It is designed for experienced professionals who lead projects, coordinate teams and stakeholders, manage delivery decisions, and connect project outcomes to organizational priorities. The current PMP exam launched globally in July 2026 and emphasizes real-world decision-making, value delivery, stakeholder engagement, adaptive approaches, artificial intelligence, sustainability, and business outcomes. The exam is organized around three domains: People, Process, and Business Environment. PMP is industry-neutral and is relevant to professionals managing projects across technology, construction, healthcare, government, finance, operations, and other sectors. Candidates must satisfy PMI education, project-management experience, and training requirements before taking the exam.
- Recommended experience
- PMI requires candidates to meet one of several education-and-experience paths. Current options include: high school/secondary education plus 5 years managing projects; an associate degree or vocational/trade diploma plus 4 years; a bachelor’s degree or higher plus 3 years; or an eligible PMI GAC degree plus 2 years. Qualifying project experience must fall within the last 10 years. Candidates also need 35 hours of project professional training, or an active CAPM certification that fulfills the training requirement.
